On the edge of our little village of South Orange, New Jersey, is a wonderful natural 19th century-style park, filled with woods, hiking paths, water falls, and lakes. One of the most popular is a Golden Pond-type pool of water with a 1.7 mile hiking path around it. On holidays, it fills with people wanting to take a stroll, ride the swan paddle boats, or simply sit and rest or fish. It is one the most beautiful walking paths in urban American, tucked in a valley below South Mountain. You would never know that you are only 12 miles from midtown Manhattan as the crow flies. And the crows, eagles, and an assortment of other birds do fly.
